General Name practices
Within Numerology we analyze two primary aspects of an individual's identity. These are the name, and birth date. Different cultures handle naming practices differently. On such practice is the assigning a name to a child. Also, different cultures handle personal names and changing names (primarily at marriage) differently.

Within Numerology your name is looked at in its various parts. These parts are:

  • Birth name - The Birth name is given at birth. It is recorded on a document usually the birth certificate. This "full" name is rarely used although it may be used for contracts and legal documents.

  • First Name -(primary name) - The first name is generally the way you are addressed by family, friends, lovers, and co-workers, virtually everyone who knows you in a more personal way.

  • Nick name - This may be the way that your friends, and co-workers, address you.

  • Social Name - The Social name is the one used when we are introduced to someone. If your name is Jane A. Doe, then you are normally introduced as "Jane", or "Jane Doe" in more formal settings.

  • Maiden Name - For those cultures that have women change their name in marriage. This is the name they were known as before they were married.

It is important to analyze all of these names, but the most importance should be given to the name most often used.

Naming conventions of various cultures are listed here, to allow you to get a flavor for how names and naming practices are handled around the world. When understanding an individual it is important to respect, and understand, his/her cultural beliefs and practices.

    Korean society & marriage
Within Korean society a wife generally does not take her husband's family name when she weds. Instead, she will maintain her father's family name and her given name throughout her life. At her death, she will be listed in the family records as being an ancestor of her children.

    Cuban surnames
Cuban surnames are patterned after the Spanish form and contain both the father's surname and the mother's surname in that order, sometimes separated by the word "y" ("and").

    Baby Names & Resources
Choosing your baby's name will probably be one of the most important, exciting and fun things you will do during your pregnancy. The following are a few tips that will help to get you started to find that perfect baby name.

    African Naming Day ceremony
The Naming-Day ceremony is held seven to ten days following the birth of the African child. The ceremony is held at the home of the parents, either mid-morning or early afternoon. Family members and other members of the community are present to celebrate the arrival of the new baby. Each guest leaves some small token of good-will. Relatives and friends, if they are female, give their gifts to the child's mother, and the men present their gifts to the child's father.
